(Note: since this policy was created, a new guideline has been established. If you are going out
of town during hurricane season, just contact Fairway at 777-7575 and let them know and you can put up your shutters prior
to a storm.)
The following Standard, including guidelines
for its implementation, was created by the Deer
Lakes
Architectural Review Committee. This document provides a clear and unambiguous
Standard for the installation and use of materials to protect door and/or window openings before,
during and after a storm.
These protective materials
are divided into two categories: Those permanently affixed to the
residence, and those installed for a very short temporary period, specifically during a storm.
Permanently affixed protective materials will be in the form of
accordion or roll-up Storm Shutters which remain permanently attached to
the residence throughout the year. These permanently affixed shutters may
be closed preceding a threatening storm and expeditiously re-opened after all danger from the storm has passed.
Permanently affixed materials must comply with the following requirements:
(a)
be reviewed and approved by the ARC prior to installation.
(b) be operable or appear as such, and be compatible with and complement
the
architecture of the residence.
(c)
be constructed of metal, plastic (clear or transparent without any color or tinting
whatsoever) or other materials approved by the ARC.
Under no circumstances
may permanent shutters be permanently closed on a residence or remain in
place except in connection with an imminent storm or during the period of an evacuation caused by a predicted storm. Temporarily installed materials are NOT permanently attached to the residence
and may only be installed immediately preceding a threatening storm and
must be expeditiously removed after all danger from the storm has passed. Temporarily
installed materials must comply with the following requirements:
(a)
consist of plywood, boards, corrugated plastic, corrugated metal, or any other material
deemed suitable by an owner or tenant to protect his or her residence.
(b) be applied in a safe and secure manner to a residence by any means available without prior approval of the ARC.
Under no circumstances may temporarily installed materials be
permanently affixed to a residence or remain in place except in connection
with an imminent storm or during the period of an evacuation caused by
a predicted storm.
